One missing letter. A whole lot of Southern character.
The story goes that Danny Powers, fruit stand owner Anthony Jenkins’ half brother, picked up a paintbrush to make a homemade “PEACHES” sign for the stand on U.S. 441 near Madison, GA.. With a little beer and moonshine in the mix, the “A” never made it onto the board. Customers started asking, “What’s Peches?” And just like that, a misspelling became the name folks remembered.
